I would uninstall and reinstall the software for the printer and see if that takes care of the problem. So, my guess is that the software/drivers didn’t quite go in right. I can’t find any mention of upside-down printing mentioned in the troubleshooter for the printer.
When it's working correctly (which is rare), it really is a great machine. I've had it for about 7 months now and I have to say that even for that price point it's been a disappointment. If your installation on Vista doesn’t have the Configuration tab in the Director, you need to uninstall and reinstall the SOFTWARE for the printer, not just the drivers. I primarily chose this printer over the other models with the features I wanted (wireless capabilities, print double-sided, etc.) because it was cheap. If using the duplexing accessory, the instructions on the HP web site say that you need to enable the device in the Printer Toolbox (HP Director). Are you using this accessory, or doing 2-sided printing manually? It appears as if the 2710 has an accessory that you need to purchase for duplexing.
